Skills You Will Need to Get a Job with a Tech Giant

BY I Don't Love My Job / February 12, 2018

If you want a job with a tech giant such as Google, Amazon, Apple or Facebook, consider the following skills. Having the right knowledge can increase your odds of getting hired by the employer of your dreams.

In-Demand Skills

You have to have computer science skills if you hope to get a job with one of the tech giants mentioned above. In fact, this skill is the one that is in highest demand.

Other in-demand skills will vary depending on what type of job you are interested in. Designers are expected to know graphic, user interface and website design. Furthermore, job applicants in this field must know how to use Photoshop and Illustrator. Programmers, on the other hand, are expected to be familiar with Java, Python and C. Project managers will need good leadership, strategy, customer service and product marketing skills. Data scientists are expected to know data and business analysis, SQL, data mining and python.

Experience Levels

Your experience working in the tech industry is perhaps one of the greatest skills you could offer. While Facebook is content to hire recent graduates, most other tech giants require job applicants to show a certain amount of previous on the job experience. Thankfully, this isn't all that hard to gain. Working at part-time jobs, doing volunteer tech work such as helping a charitable organization with their website or even running your own tech-related business all count towards your job experience requirements.

Be sure to also pay attention to "soft skills" that will increase your odds of finding work in any sector. The ability to speak two or more languages, work well with others, consistently show up on time and handle difficult jobs without complaint are skills you can't learn in university but are highly sought after by tech companies around the nation.
